Ashley Brown, artist and ceramicist, based in Southwest Missouri. Primarily works with Ceramics, creating both functional and sculptural art pieces. Much of her work is inspired by her spiritual beliefs, nature, and the material itself. Ceramics as a medium is very tactile and she enjoys creating pieces that highlight this aspect and invite the viewer to interact with her art in a more literal sense.

As an artist, my craft has evolved and changed over time. The past couple of years my clay pieces have become a canvas of sort. I discovered the love of "sgraffito" which is Italian for scratching the surface. I'm always amazed when I scratch away the underglaze from the surface of a piece revealing the clay below. I'm drawn to the positive and negative spaces I can create. It's nice to discover your gift, but the real joy comes in sharing it.

I adore pottery and try to make each piece unique, a reflection of myself using organic forms that are functional.

Bio: Ceramic Art has been a journey of passion versus pragmatism for me. At 64, I am dedicating my life to it. I fell in love with clay in high school and pursued it in college, but fear of poverty led me to change my major. I returned to clay in 1987, earning my BA in Art at Missouri Southern State Univ and studying ceramics in graduate school at Kansas State Univ. Fearing poverty as an artist I spent years in a family business, returning to clay in 2023. My fascination lies in the movement and plasticity of clay. I embrace imperfections, inspired by ceramic artists like Ken Ferguson, Paul Soldner, and George Ohr. Now with my degrees and teaching experience, I am ready to face the Art World.
