I am a painter and illustrator. I primarily work in oils, but I find most mediums satisfying. My individual experiences and worldview serve as the foundation of my work. I frequently use myself as a model, although I do not consider the work self-portraits. Instead, an actress playing multiple roles.

I take inspiration from my experience with mental health issues. Some of the paintings address loneliness, trauma, and depression, mirroring my inner struggles. Other pieces are an escape, a journey into a whimsical, fanciful world. My soul has a constant yearning to create and express. I’m hoping for the audience to find resonance with my work. Maybe to evoke compassion and a feeling of interconnectedness that surpasses time and location. At the very least, to foster a small smile and let them forget the weight on their shoulders.

I have been intrigued for some time with the idea of alternate realities. My abstract paintings explore depictions of energy manifesting into various forms. Three-dimensional pieces include found and re-purposed items with interesting textures and shapes

Julie Catlett

Julie Catlett began painting vintage windows in 2024. She has no formal art training and is self-taught in the process of reverse painting on glass. She has to-date painted over 200 panes of glass.
As a Registered Nurse, Julie was looking for an outlet to the stress of the profession. When a neighbor set out his 100-year-old windows after window replacement, Julie had no idea what she would do with them but could not bear the thought of them going into a landfill. The craftmanship as well as the years that the windows served their tenants, fascinated Julie and thus her unique art was born.
“Each window is a portal to an earlier time with stories to tell. When I paint, I try to honor the window and its maker.” ~Julie
Julie resides in Joplin with her husband, Chuck (also an artist), and their husky/malamute mix.

Statement:
Being immersed in the intersection of art and nature is a foundational part of my spiritual practice. Creating art, for me, is not just a process of meticulous energy and intention; it is a meditative act and a form of resistance against consumer culture and the pervasive attention economy. I create using a variety of media - primarily watercolor and ink, but also oil, embroidery, collage, and digital media. In my work, I venerate the natural world as a sacred force and celebrate the life-giving power of the female body. Much of the recurring symbolism I use has been inspired by personal life events - the power of pregnancy and birth, psychedelic experiences, growing up within patriarchal religion, and joyful, formative childhood memories. Through the process of engaging in creative work, I seek to explore beauty and interconnectedness while questioning established belief systems and societal norms that often go unexamined

Bio:
Liz Darling is a visual artist from Kansas known for illustrative, organic paintings that often feature fungi, lunar imagery, and the female body. With a precise, organized approach and an emphasis on process and exploration, Liz uses watercolor, ink, and various other media to engage the intersection of magic, nature, the divine feminine, and the inner child

Joplin artist Nancy Erwin immortalizes long-gone area landmarks by painting their "portraits" based on vintage photographs. Not only do these works preserve memories, they also document a way of life that we'll never see again. Born and raised in Joplin, Nancy has been a part of the changes from the 50's era of Joplin to present day. Her love for the landmarks that immortalize this beautiful city are captured on canvas for generations to enjoy.

I make one of a kind jewelry from found objects, re-purposed items, the unusual and unexpected. I am always rummaging through flea markets, antique stores and yard sales looking for treasures to use in my jewelry.

I have loved art since I was a small child. As far back as I can remember, I was always doing something “artsy”. Over the years, I have enjoyed many different mediums, including: Calligraphy, quilt making and fabric arts, repurposing furniture, mixed media and recently, painting. My style comes from the “little girl within me and my goal is simply to make people happy! If my artwork makes you smile, then I’ve succeeded in what I set out to do!

I have always loved art, and studied art in high school and college. Since 1985 I’ve owned & operated an Ad Agency. In all those years, I have designed logos, written jingles, created countless TV and radio commercials and hundreds of videos, but my true love is photography and painting! I have recently begun rediscovering those two mediums. The “little kid” in me who always wanted to be an artist is now doing so. The best part - is doing it with my wonderful wife, Cindy, also an artist!

Splitting my days of childhood between the North shores of Minnesota and hiking through the Rockies, it's safe to say I spent most of my time outdoors. It created a passion for the wilderness and a curiosity in American History. There was always pebbles in my pocket and a pencil or paintbrush in my hand. That hasn't changed in adulthood.

A longing to share what makes my heart sing. On paper, canvas and even on the human body. I'm never more at peace than when I am creating.

Phone: 417-726-2848

Bio: Jesse was born in Carthage, Missouri. Many of his paintings and drawings are in private collections. Some have won prizes and awards in competition. He studied Engineering, Music, Psychology, Writing, and Art. He enjoys working in the Tri-State area for its many talented personable artists and art enthusiasts. He is a charter member of Local Color Art Gallery and Studio in Joplin, Mo and teaches “Memories in the Making” classes for the Alzheimer’s Association at Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin.

His vision emphasizes people, animals, rocks, trees and water; sometimes architecture. These become interacting symbols of abstract thought and emotions. Light as color and contrast are important like the sun giving light and reflecting off the subject matter. Often the light simply comes from within.

“I move my inner vision out where others may see it and it may remain for a while. I paint people, nature, and light. I convert what seems to be chaos into a visionary experience. The magic of painting makes imagination visible.”

My works are meditations on the question of ruin or redemption presented by derelict architecture, and the cyclical transience evident in all living entities, whether flora, fauna, or human form.

I am currently working out of Art Forms Gallery in Pittsburg Kansas

I started painting at the end of 2019. This is a new journey for me and one that I have looked forward to for many years. I see where the culmination of life experiences has given me the knowledge and expertise that I need for this venture. I love learning new things and sharing with others what I have learned. I want to create art that will bring joy to those who ponder the paintings. I would like to also make pieces that cause people to think. For me art has been a good therapy, one that brings me great joy.
