Bio:
Angelica Abshire has always been intrigued by photography, but it wasn’t until she was diagnosed with Autism as an adult that she realized she could use her craft to share her unique vision of the world. Her connection to art, and especially photography, has become a huge part of who she is. She says, “My photography is a way to communicate to those who don’t always see beyond the big picture.” Her work focuses on architectural details, especially geometric shapes, but she also loves to work in natural settings, juxtaposing the manmade with the wild. Her photos have appeared in local and international exhibitions, online and in print journals, and in galleries such as the Spiva Arts Center in Joplin, Mo. In addition to photography, Angelica works with letterpress and is a bookbinder. She volunteers for the Pittsburg Arts Council (Kan.) and Women Helping Women: A Fairy Godmother’s Fund, where she uses her graphic arts and design skills to support her community. She is the mother of two teenage girls. She and her husband also have three dogs, several reptiles, and a hedgehog. They live in an oak woods on the edge of a meadow.
