Coffee Talk presented by Al Gritten and Nancy Erwin: The board has decided to suspend Coffee Talk for 2022 and replace it with a quarterly Pizza Think Tank. The hope is to bring in more members and have more involvment. A quick poll was taken to see if a Saturday morning or weeknight event would be more appealing. The majority in attendance preferred a weeknight event.

Workshops and professional development presented by Chadan Tomlin and Sandra Parrill: Brenda Hayes presented a book binding workshop that was well attended with such positive results that a second one may be requested in the future. Some suggestions for future workshops include gold leaf application, plein air, canvas stretching and surface preperation.

Studio Tour 2021 presented by Daria Claiborne: Thirteen artists in 7 locations participated in the 2nd studio tour. The event posted a $937 profit and had a lot of positive feedback from guests. Requests and suggestions for 2022 are to have more volunteers, aquire signs with arrows, and more communication with participating artists.

Budget for 2021 and 2022 presented by Chadan Tomlin: 2021 beginning balance $9,734.69 with $6065 incoming funds for the year and $7010.26 outgoing funds for the year. 2022 budget included $6200 potential income and $6230 potential outgoing funds. Angel Brame made a motion to approve the budget with Laura Lowry-Greene seconding. All in attendance approved.

2022 Looking Forward

Verdant at artCental: The theme is green and alive, though it is not a requirement. Michele Knight has graciously agreed to be the judge. Two pieces per artist are allowed for this exhibit. Pieces for the exhibit need to be dropped off at artCentral on January 23rd from 1-3pm. A photo of each piece needs to be emailed to joplinrac@gmail.com no later than 1/23. Opening reception has been scheduled for February 4th from 6pm to 8pm. Mask protocols are in place. Anyone interested in volunteering as a docent during the exhibit can also email joplinrac@gmail.com.

Exhibit at KCAC: Andrew Batcheller has submitted an application with artwork supplied by members for a potential exhibit in 2022 or early 2023. We are waiting on a response.

Joplin Public Library: Jill Sullivan has offered JRAC an exhibit during December 2022. More details will follow on dates, show guidelines, theme, etc.

Emerging Artist at Spiva: As a change of pace, JRAC will host an Emerging Artist exhibit at Spiva instead of a general membership show. The participants will be recruited from local art departments on the high school and university level. The idea is to encourage the local students to become members and introduce them to all of the art opportunities in the area. Emily Frankowski suggested we offer a one year membership to award winners (to be used at age 18 or above in accordance with JRAC bylaws).

Crystal Bridges: A field trip for members is in the works for 2022. All in attendance agreed it would be a fun trip. Plans will proceed.

Election of board members: Three current board positions are up for renewal. Members volunteering for the positions are Brenda Hayes, Angel Brame, Laura Lowry-Greene, and Sandra Parrill. Ballots were distributed and counted. Open three-year terms have been filled with Brenda Hayes, Angel Brame, and Sandra Parrill.

Door Prizes: Names were drawn for four $25 gift cards to Michael’s. Names drawn are: Laura Lowry-Greene, Rich Reed, Cleo Copeland, and Connie Miller. Gift cards will be mailed to recipient’s homes.

The meeting was declared adjourned at 7:15pm by Andrew Batcheller. The next meeting of the JRAC Board will be at Andrew’s studio on February 8th at 6pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Angel Brame, Secretary
