Board Meeting

June 14, 2022

Attendees: Sandra Parrill, Andrew Batcheller, Brenda Hayes, Angel Brame, Al Gritten, Emily Rose, Daria Claiborne

The meeting of the JRAC board was called to order at 5:59pm by President Andrew Batcheller.

Agenda Approval: A motion was made by Angel Brame to approve the agenda and seconded by Al Gritten. The motion was unanimously approved.

Minutes Approval: Minutes approved via email prior to meeting and disbursed to members.

Brenda Hayes presented a Treasurer’s report that showed a beginning balance of $8,910.09. Ending balance after membership dues and disbursements result in a balance of $8,388.19 in the bank account. Treasurer’s Report Approval: A motion was made by Emily Rose to accept the report and was seconded by Brenda Hayes. The motion was unanimously approved.

Pizza and Wine Think Tank is scheduled for June 16th at 6pm at Spiva. Topics for discussion are a canvas stretching demo by Andrew Batcheller and the possibility of a starving artist sale/swap. Current RSVP’s for the event stand at 14.

The Plein Air event is still on target for the fall. No additional updates at this time.

The 2022 Studio Tour is in progress. Applications have been sent to membership with a deadline of 7/15/22. Daria Claiborne secured Martin Luther School as the “Home Base” for any member wanting to participate but not be in their regular studio space. This is the ideal location for anyone too far out or not wanting the general public in their home.

Our next workshop will be Watercolor with Debbie Reed at Mosaics. Class will be limited to 15. Debbie will provide a list of supplies that will be the responsibility of the participants. The scheduled date/time for this event is July 24th from 1pm-4pm. Reservations will be required. Debbie will give step by step instruction on landscapes where artists are walked through different watercolor techniques until they have a completed painting.  Techniques covered will be:

Wet on wet

Dry brush

Negative painting

Adding texture with salt, saran wrap, foil, etc

Tips on tree painting

Emerging Artist exhibit is still in the planning stages. Andrew and Emily will meet with Heather at Spiva to discuss details with consideration to Spiva possibly moving into the new building during the fall. Emily will send a list of definitions of what an “emerging” artist is for the board to review.

Post Memorial Library show has been titled, “The Eyes Have It,” and is scheduled for November 17 to December 29, 2022. Additional details will be available as it gets closer.

Joplin Arts Fest application notification letters have gone out. The application process is closed.

Emily Rose will be showcasing her standup comedy routine on Sunday, June 19th at 9pm at Blackthorn Pizza in Joplin.

The meeting was declared adjourned at 6:43pm by Andrew Batcheller. The next meeting will be on July 12th at 6pm at Andrew’s studio.
